Adding Retina to a Comprehensive Ophthalmology Practice
Over the past 25 years, several factors have increased the demand for vitreoretinal subspecialist services: the increasing population of baby-boomers, increasing development of treatment options, improvements in surgical instrumentation and outcomes, and an increasing concern about medicolegal considerations in areas that have other retinal physicians readily available to treat potentially blinding emergencies. This paper discusses the ins and outs of expanding to the posterior segment.
Improve Your Glaucoma Efforts
As diagnostic technology improves, so does the ease of managing glaucoma. At this point all US states allow ODs to manage glaucoma to a certain degree, and as most glaucoma patients are loyal to their ODs, if you are able to properly manage the disease you can successfully retain this subset of patients. This article will discuss how to diagnose and how to make sure your glaucoma patients return.
Laser Treatment for Scars and Keloids
Scars can be broadly classified as hypertrophic scars, keloids, atrophic scars, and acne scars. Prior reviews of laser scar revision techniques have been organized according to the type of scar. This review presents an overview of laser principles as they pertain to the treatment of scars followed by a synopsis of scar treatment organized by laser type to facilitate the busy practitioner’s utilization of available resources.
A Glimpse at New and Emerging Treatments for DME
The quest to preserve vision in diabetic eye disease is focusing on anti-VEGF drugs, implants and topical drops. DME management in the past few years has changed dramatically, though. At present anti-VEGF and steroids are the most commonly used treatment modalities along with variable combinations, and some of the most promising treatments are still emerging. This paper looks at these emerging drug-delivery technologies and new drugs, which promise to deliver improved results.
